Impact on Student Learning

Physical Education teacher candidates utilize assessments and reflection to foster student learning and inform instructional decisions.

Element 5.2: Use appropriate assessments to evaluate student learning before, during, and after instruction

Artifact: PED 434 assessments

Date: Fall 2011

Reflection:
In Statistics and Assessment in Physical Education, each student constructed assessments used to analyze student performance within the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domain. All my assessments were self-assessments that the students filled out after each lesson that was taught. The pre-assessment didn’t have a section for heart rate or steps which prevented me from comparing those statistics after the post-assessment. For future reference I can use these assessments to construct a more effective assessment which then can be used to assess how students are progressing in my classroom.

Element 5.3: Use the reflective cycle to implement change in teacher performance, student learning, and instructional goals and decisions

Artifact: PED 434 presentation

Date: Fall 2011

Reflection:
Through my presentation I learned what to change when assessing students in a physical education setting. Students scored a perfect score on my pre-assessment which tells me that these assessments need harder criteria in order to challenge the students. Also there will be an instance where your post-assessment results won’t match your pre-assessment results which can skew your data. As far as professionalism, the presentation went well however there are too many words on the slides. As a future professional it’s important to keep slides simple so that parents and faculty can understand what you’re trying to accomplish.
